Roundhay Park is a huge park located on the north of Leeds. Basically the city’s green lung, it’s surrounded by beautiful trees, lakes, rose garden and even the strange tropical world - where various rooms of the indoor gardens brings you through from the desert to the rainforest, right down to the humidity, butterflies and temperature.

Not wanting to miss capturing autumn again, last weekend was spent in Roundhay Park doing a photoshoot. Shamefully enough, I did not manage to capture much of anything. I ended up directing the shots instead - vanity overtook and I decided I wanted to capture myself. Heh. Yes, I have no shame. So this post is not really dedicated to autumn, its me me me me. And thank you to bacon for rolling his eyes whilst he obediently clicked away..

The falling leaves. I love the starkness of autumn - and how trees literally go to sleep but get up just as it becomes warmer.

Feet up ! Do you love the colors? Finished with a lomography effect.

Feet down! I love the colors of fall…helped along with a 1960’s styled cross process.

Vanity begins. Don’t you think this looks just like some old fashioned poster? Bacon reckons I look dead.

Another napping picture with lomo effect

Unprocessed

My favourite is still the 60s styled cross process.Bacon threw loads of leaves on me…am just glad that it was a very chilly dry morning

I love how the pictures turned out…I think I might be falling in love with myself. Yes, I have no shame. It’s not actually me - bacon took the pictures. Now, if only he’ll let me take pictures of him…

Snapping away at the beautiful sight in front of me, I realised that this is abnormal behaviour. Here I am, taking pictures of the beautiful sunrise from the 3rd floor - AT WORK. Not at home, AT WORK. And not after a long night out. It was the start of a very long day at 7am.

You must admit, it is a beautiful sight. The combination of the waking sun with the early mist produced this beautiful multicolored sight. This was taken with the sunset module on the Ixus 90

Another view, this time just on normal mode on the camera.

The mad part about all this is that I am ’still’ going to be jobless, irregardless of how early I start. There has been too much to do. The scary part is that the whole team is already in by 7.30 typing away, disregarding the fact that we officially start at 9am. After a week of 7am starts, I am hoping that next week will be looking slightly better and shorter hours. Well, at least later starts. I have been downing cups and cups of coffee and tea I am all caffeined out. I blame this on the people who are unable to understand that 1+3 do not equal to 5 - if I am giving mathematical advice out, they must REALLY suck!

Jobhunt is still going on full steam ahead, with my manager now taking an unhealthy interest in my jobhunt. He is now making me go thorough each job adverts sitting by my side and questioning why am I not applying for it. It’s good in a way, a kick up the ass that I need. Being so busy at work sometimes distracts me from jobhunting

Every year, third-grade (or Z list) celebrities are invited to Leeds to participate in the annual Leeds Light up. It’s basically some low-grade pseudo celebs who are paid to come and turn the switch on for Leeds’ Christmas decos. The only reason I know about this is the traffic jams caused by people rushing into the city centre as I am just leaving work. And of course, the pretty lights all around Leeds…

As I was walking home this evening:

This is how the whole city is lighted up…in various guises of christmas decorations

No, I have not been working late, this IS 5.05pm.

For me, the bah-humbug season starts again! Oh god I hate christmas. Not that I hate the presents, but its the mandatory get together with outlaws stuffed in one small living room having to make polite conversations…keeping feet crossed and nibbling on choc biscuits…

THANK GOD I’M HEADING TO EGYPT FOR CHRISTMAS!!! Bah humbug no more!!!!

One of the many things that I missed from California is the abundance of what I call imitation Chinese food. Yummz. Fluoroscent yellow lemon chicken, bright pink sweet and sour chicken, chow mein that looks like msg-flavoured boiled noodles….its so bad its good. Not something I would advise on a weekly basis, but an occasional trip to msg-land is always strangely satisfying.

With moving to Leeds, my bizzare craving for the occasional msg-laden fluoroscent food is satisfied. I have a few favourites near where I work, and think I have sussed out the best of the lot, usually costing around £6.50 for lunch. Not bad, considering that a sandwich is around £2-£3.

Anyway. This post is not about the places that I usually go - Its about a new fake-chinese buffet in Castleford, a town about 15mins south of Leeds. Some of my favourite shops are at the attached discount factory outlet, which boasts of £2.99 tops and trousers from GAP.

We bumped into Flaming Dragon when we were food hunting a week or two ago, tired from tux shopping for bacon. I do not usually do reviews on such places, but seeing that it was on the day I got my camera, decided to snap away like as if I have never seen msg before

It was absolutely huge, think it must take about 200 covers.

Selection of starters. One of the reasons I love places like this is the unlimited variety of starters. Not that most of them are good, but I just like to try different stuff. Fried wantan, prawn toast, salt and pepper chicken wing, chicken ball, OK sauce ribs (no, I’ve not heard of OK sauce until I got here too..it tastes slightly fruity)

I love hot and sour soup too. I can only find it in the States & UK. It is usually next to the chicken and sweetcorn soup…again, only found in the States & UK. I assume it is also found in other ‘western’ countries like AU ect.

bacon enjoying his meal. Yummx. Note his onion ring. Hahahaha :). He even had three chip - I think chinese food with chips are absolutely disgusting, but loads of people here order chips with black bean chicken or sweet and sour pork.

I send bacon for freshly cooked food. It even have a ‘teppanyaki counter’. Tastes nothing like teppanyaki - it was msg laden, oil drenched and extremely salty - I am sure the chef just wanted us to buy more drinks

Nearly died of oil and salt overdose. Only thing that I really enjoyed was loads of beansprouts. Yumz.

Dessert was fried bananas and fried apples with ice cream. Yes, goreng pisang. However theirs was fairly soggy - don’t think they use rice flour

All in all, for £4.50 per person (RRP: £5.50, we had a coupon for £1 off) this is not bad at all. They do, however, charge you £0.50 for refillable ‘filtered’ water. Still a steal, judging by the variety of food they serve. Well worth if even if you just go in for chips and sweet and sour pork. Our local takeaway charges about £5 for chips and sweet and sour.

Apparently they have branches all over the UK, ensuring that you get your MSG fix wherever you are! Aside from the chinese buffet and ‘teppanyaki’, they also do a brazillian carvery, where meats on skewers are brought table-to-table and they would happily slice some off for you. Interesting. At £12.50 per head it might be something that I have to consider further rather than just going tomorrow.

I can now mini-blog from my phone at any time!! Wee! Shame I can’t set it to upload pictures from my mobile, otherwise I would be abandoning proper blogging. So yeah - you can now keep your fingers on my pulse…another step in stalking me! Like as if anyone’s interested :).

With dreary weather comes extreme measures. The unexpected early onset of winter has got me more than slightly agitated. The cold winds has made my long locks limp, and I am shedding more than my cat. Short black hair = cat. Long black hair = me. We’re literally clumping the vacuum.

So a long-delayed trip to Mr Sassoon was booked, and I came back looking like this:

To be honest, I don’t really like it. Faye, who was my hairdresser at Vidal Sassoon, was quite wary of chopping my locks off, trying to persuade me to keep it. I think some hairdressers are just afraid of making you cry especially when you’re going from having really long hair to short locks. I also feel that this is not as ’shapely’ as my last cut at vidal sasson, but I did not like it the last time as well. But I do feel about 10 times lighter than before the chop, and it takes me about 10% of the time that it used to take when I had to wash and blow my hair.

What do you think?

One of my all time fave mamak food (well, indian theoretically) is masala tosai. Tosai in general really. I like the slightly sour taste from the fermented black lentil. For those not in the know, this is a southern indian pancake, spread out on a hot griddle until crisp on the outside and then rolled up . Masala tosai is basically the same pancake stuffed with masala potatoes. I also like rawa tosai - basically the same but made with herbs and shaped into a lacy pancake

Due to the large indian/pakistani/bangaladashi population here in the UK, I had never been deprived of curries. However, looking for the type of southern indian food that is prevalent in Malaysia is slightly more difficult. No, scrap that, WAY more difficult. I had not had a tosai here ever….and one saturday I just really, really fancied a tosai. By hook or by crook. So we went on an adventure to Bradford, which houses one of the largest South Asian communities in the UK. They were celebrating Hari Raya/Eid and Deepavali/Diwali, so the whole town was busy with shoppers.

I had one particular restaurant in mind - but bacon left the address at home, and we had to drive around the town for hours. And bacon just LOVEs driving around aimlessly. We ended up eating at a chinese buffet place because it was getting late - BUT we did find Prashad’s eventually! So we came back again the next day - making it a weekend out at Bradford

(Pictures taken with my Sony Ericsson phone - note the lower quality)

The menu

And they have tosai!! YAY! Well, in the UK its spelled as dosa, not tosai. Apparently, dosa is hindi, whilst tosai/thosai is Tamil, which is more prevalent in Malaysia.

The restaurant is fairly tiny, maybe about 20 covers. They had indian house music on - groovy. Doesn’t go with the food and decor, but I thought it was quite cool, like a bollywood night but with house music.

Bacon had the thali - the selection platter. Comes with rice, chappatis (its called rotli here - I thought it was going to be roti canai), a dhal, papadum (its called papads here), two veggie curries, a starter and srikanh (mango pulp with milk).Bacon ordered a potato curry and a pumpkin curry, and they both tasted fab. £8.75 for all that

My masala dosa. Yums. Comes with the world’s best mango chutney and a dhal. If you are not aware, unlike Malaysia, restaurants in the UK charges for their dhal. The dosa was as crisp as can be with delish flavourful masala potato stuffing. £5.50 - I think most people order this for a starter, but it was enough for me as a main dish without any additional starter.

Bacon stuffing his face

The srikanh. This is my first time having srikanh, so I asked the waiter what it was. He said it was baby food. You should have seen my alarmed face! I think what he was trying to tell me was the texture was like babyfood, but his english was not good enough to continue explaining it. Heh.It was very nice though, mango pulp mixed in with milk to thicken.

All in all, it was an excellent meal. Oh, and did I mention this is a veggie place? Yes. You don’t hear me say this often, but this vegetarian meal totally rocks! It was yummy, flavourful and very, very much like the standards that I expect in Malaysia. Too many curry places in the UK cater to the boozy crowd, which means alot of oil and bog-standard curries. I would choose this veggie place any time. You would’nt expect less from an award-winning chef, would you? We met the head chef/founder/owner, Kaushy Patel who was running the adjacent deli after our meal and she was as nice as can be. Definately recommended for the veggies and carnivores.

I now have no reason to be lazy, as my laptop came with a card reader for SD. And this Ixus is very powerful for a small little thing. Fairly heavy at 150g, but I’d rather have a camera that I trust rather than a cheap one that may malfunction. Saying that, my last ixus did die on me, but that was after two years of hard partying..

So yes, thank you. All of you. I promise promise I will take more pictures…:)

Apologies for vanishing without a trace again - I have been displaying syndrome of early-winter depression again. This happens on a yearly basis and I absolutely hate it! Over the past two weeks the weather have been utterly horrible - with strong winds, snow and hailstorm across the UK. I am absolutely not ready for it! Winters in Fresno starts in the middle of November, and even then it is not this cold. With the changing of daylight saving time as well last weekend, all this week I have been having some sort of jetlag. No doubt its only an hour, but I can’t sleep long enough even though I am absolutely tired!

Before the snowstorm hit, I took one last look at the sunflowers in my garden. This year was another chilly summer, and my sunflowers did not actually bloom until the cold hit again

<img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3096/2914846580_7b18be69a6.jpg"
Dewdrops on the petals. No, I actually sprinkled water there.hehe.

Using my macro lenses, this did not come out as nice as I wanted it to due to the wind - and the fact that it was 7 ft high and I could not reach it!

<img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3049/2913982795_c5b7059898.jpg"
Double bees

One of the good things about having a DSLR is that my pussy actually looks good in it - you do not know how hard it is to photograph a black cat!

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/sourrain/2913941989/"
I love this sunflower selection - looks like an angry flaming sun

This was one of my smallest sunflower due to the fact that I grew it in a pot, smaller than my palm. It looks so dreamy don’t it??

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/sourrain/2913904709/"
Sunflowers always makes me happy - and it reminds me of my good friend magges who loves it:)

Just a short one today - I should have a ’surprise’ blog about something more substantial in the next few days. Just awaiting delivery!

And stay safe trick or treating!
