Not really here – this is a scheduled post made just-for-you whilst I’m away travelling the country/out of country..
……………………………………………………………………..
Monday lunchtime was one of the rare moments where I had lunch at a restaurant. Most workdays I much prefer to have lunch at my desk – working in the city centre comes with its perils; when I am let out for a walk during lunch I tend to spend, spend, spend! So most months I probably have lunch at a restaurant or pub about twice….
So Monday saw me not only starting a new job but visiting a new restaurant. Nash’s is one of the dwindling numbers of traditional fish-n-chip restraurant in the city centre. It’s been closed for renovations for quite some time now – it finally reopened last week. Housed in a traditional Tudor house, I was under the impression that it’s another one bites the dust – apparently not. Katie manage to get a free table for Monday, as they were doing an opening promotion last week of getting your food for free and having to only pay for drinks.

I love it inside – it looks so completely retro set in the 1930s – we were by far younger by everyone by about 30 years – a good thing
.
Basically we were allowed to order ANYTHING at all from the menu – I had the Whitby Crab dressed in Mayo whilst the others had smoked mackerel pate and lobster bisque. The mackerel pate was very tasty…and large. My crab came in a teensy chutney pot, very cute.

For mains, there was a large selection of different fried fishes (haddock, plaice, cod, halibut) fishcakes, fishpies, scampi ect. I’ve always loved cod, so I ordered the cod whilst the others got the traditional haddock. Probably a good decision on my part – the haddock was HUGE…as in bigger than the platter huge. The cod was nearly half the size of the haddock – and even that was slightly too much for lunch – seeing that I usually have a salad or a sandwich. It was nice as well that you get a selection of either mushy peas or garden peas – I love garden peas but can’t stand mushy peas so it was good to have a choice.

The chips was very delish and non-greasy. Very impressed with the batter on the fish – even after I’ve finished with my lunch the batter was still crisp. I also love the fact that they gave us tartare sauce with it – on a pot instead of in sachets. The lemon is a nice touch as well – I actually prefer a squeeze of lemon to splashes of malt vineger.
We were all so stuffed by the end of the mains that we were unable to fit in desserts – which is an absolute shame as they stock my very very favourite Cartmel Village Sticky Toffee Pudding..Yumz. Oh well – there is always next time! Good company, good food, beautiful ambiance – I just love the bright airy interior peppered with matching black chandeliers. Too many fish restaurants insists on living on 70s formica & doilly design. Well worth the £1m refurbishment cost in preserving the soul of this tudor building.
