With The Ashes settling down in Headlingley, Leeds this week for the fourth test match (omg lookit me spurting sport-esque speak), the weather up north have decided to mirror that normally experienced down under. Hovering at a pleasant 20 degrees, blue skies and floaty fluffly white clouds turned Leeds into what probably feels like on a typical spring day Down Under. A picnic was definately in line, and for our fierce competitors, this is perfect barbie weather.
And what a perfect weather for Wicker Wicket!!!
Rules
Regular cricket rules apply – the difference is in between runs, the runners have to be eating (yeah, just me to create an eating game) or drinking….the aussies went with beer whilst the poms stuck with a nice cuppa tea
Whilst making the run, batsmen MUST stop to eat/drink an item off the tray.
No chewing/drinking allowed once the runs stop – if batsmen are still chewing when they reach the crease, the runs will be NULLED.
No spitting out food/drink during runs, you MUST finish whatever you picked up off the barbie/tea tray.
This game is designed with improvision in mind – I served tea/beer and sandwiches/hotdogs combo; but could be easily adapted for tequila shots, pork pies, chocolate, bourbon…or sushi dipped in wasabi![]()
Still confused? Well, I thought you might, so here is a little instructional video:
This was shot a mere two miles away from where all the Ashes action were happening…we were hoping for some of the Australian magic to rub off us (England’s pathetic loss was an embarrasment). Special thanks goes out to Walkabout Pub for sponsoring our Ashes themed teeshirts..we love you!! And of course, to my santa’s little helpers, lovely Katie & family!
