I am supposed to be extracting data from SAS, a statistical software by next week for my new job. Theoretically, someone in my position should already be well versed in data extraction and programing. Not only I have none of the skills, I am in a department where I know nothing about the products, procedure or people. The only thread I am hanging from is the fact that I ‘used’ to have exposure to SQL – ableit minimal. And whatever minimal knowledge I had in SQL has rusted away to tetanus status by now. Coupled that with what looks like Visual Basic-like programing, I seem to be doing everything that I hated in college – all rolled into one!
Guess I could not be doing criminology (I rocked in that class) nor could I be doing music history (I rocked in that class as well!). Regrets, I have few, but at the moment it is definately not paying more attention in stats class in uni…and SQL class. And wondering how did i get here. My worse classes in uni are Chemistry, Maths,Programing – and at the moment I forsee my life to consist chunks of programing, maths and stats in the very forseeable future unless i get sacked. So I guess I just have to suck it up.
Chi sq, regression, anova …. I am going to have to pick up some stats book this weekend. My brains are getting so sharp that I am correcting bacon during our grocery shopping as we always compare price vs. value. I am either getting smarter or his maths is just deterioting. And to think that I used to send him stuff from work for him to count from me.
So boys and girls – make sure you pay very very close attention in class – irregardless of whether you like it or not ! And contrary to popular belief, maths is VERY useful.
Dr Liu…I am so sorry for not paying closer attention in class…
