It’s Christmas!!

Every year, third-grade (or Z list) celebrities are invited to Leeds to participate in the annual Leeds Light up. It’s basically some low-grade pseudo celebs who are paid to come and turn the switch on for Leeds’ Christmas decos. The only reason I know about this is the traffic jams caused by people rushing into the city centre as I am just leaving work. And of course, the pretty lights all around Leeds…

As I was walking home this evening:

This is how the whole city is lighted up…in various guises of christmas decorations

No, I have not been working late, this IS 5.05pm.

For me, the bah-humbug season starts again! Oh god I hate christmas. Not that I hate the presents, but its the mandatory get together with outlaws stuffed in one small living room having to make polite conversations…keeping feet crossed and nibbling on choc biscuits…

THANK GOD I’M HEADING TO EGYPT FOR CHRISTMAS!!! Bah humbug no more!!!!

I agree with Maggie-I’ve been to Egypt five times (and through the Suez Canal ten times). The term dung hole is a polite term. Go to Israel instead-its cleaner, the people are better, and so long as you follow some common sense precautions its safer.

However if you are going to Hurghada get have Bacon get you a Gold kartouche.

maggs: No, actually I have no money. But I really needed to leave the country before I go insane! Tickets, by the way, to malaysia in xmas is about £1,200. Which is about nearly 3x the price that I am paying for a week in Egypt.

And yes….3 years time we shall see you here, where its raining, grey and depressing..ahhaha:). Not doing very well in promoting the country.

skipps: you probably do not realise this, but my passport is not acceptable for entrance to israel:). Muslim countries are banned from israel. And what the heck is a gold kartouche?

drey: What do you want the poster to say?

I would not have thought of Malaysia being off limits in Israel-shame. I’m kind of not used to thinking of Malaysia in the same category as I think of Arab countries.

Anyway-a kartouche is a gold pendant. Normally you get your name put on in Hieroglyphics. One side that-the other your name in English. The ones I have bought have been 18K or 22K gold. You can also get them done in Gulf countries-but its in Arabic.

They do make great necklaces for ladies. Would go well with your haircut! :-)

drey: Eh..do you know anyone who’s been to egypt before? I am getting conflicting info re visa status…

Thanks skipps! Yes, Israel is off limits – I am fairly sure its Malaysia’s choice..judging by what we get taught in school.

I read that it is not so much that Israel bans Malaysians-but if you go to Israel, Malaysia won’t let you back in the country. Kind of like an American who goes to Cuba. (They’ll let you in though-and take you straight to see some nice young men with firearms on their hips).

Even most Arab countries don’t do that any more……..

That’s true skipps. Its printed on our passport that we are not allowed into israel – it used to be South Africa & Israel and now it’s only Israel.

Yes, exactly like Cuba/America. Although I think Cuba may be next on my to-do list…:)
