I know its been more than a week since I last posted – and that sort of thing only happens when I am on holiday.NO I am not on hols..but free time have all been filled with discussions with bacon.

You see, two weeks ago (the very last time I posted actually) bacon won some sort of award in this huge multi national that he worked in. Ever since then he has been in sort of a career conundrum…

choice 1
move to an entirely new company with entirely new excitement. And of course, quite a large salary increase. But that means not working for this current multinational which gives us (well, him) wide opportunity of moving elsewhere, i.e. Hong Kong. Moving to this new company will also mean a long commute for him but he would be working with people he enjoys working with

choice 2
Same as the above, but as a secondment from current role, which means basically minimum wage uplift. But it also means keeping all benefits of current company, which honestly do add up to quite a bit

choice 3
Remain in same company. He has an interview next wednesday for an internal job of a higher grade which should give him the comfort zone of working with people/systems he already know and also the comfortable salary increase.

choice 4
Remain in current role – hoping for a promotion soon since everyone’s jumping the current ship

For more than a week now we have been going backwards and forwards thinking about this.

Any comments or suggestions anyone?

Not going to have posts of any quality whatsoever until this issue is resolved, hopefully happily. But watch out for a yummilicious post comming up tomorrow…Well, I hope it’s yummilicious anyway,it’s still in the pot!

To me, it’s a no-brainer. Two things stick out to me: current company offers good conditions and potential mobility. So the obvious choice to me is #3. You get to stay with the company in familiar surroudings, and get a higher pay.

I like choice #3 too. I think it presents the level of comfort in money and connections. Well, it will depends on the interview, so we shall see.

But of course, this is ultimately not my choice..if it was we would quit the rat race and make snickers bar milkshake for a living..:). But bacon IS reading this *waves to husband* so it will definately help him in his dillema – or make it worse!

Go for either #3 or #4.

Either way, he will still win! In the meantime prepare for the interview, go for interview, then just wait until the result of interview is known. Don’t worry too much. All will be good!

Quit current job, give up all benefits, go to beach, bum for 6 months, become dive instructor, live life on deserted island, tell the wife “will be back….wheneva”. The choice seems pretty simple to me….. *ahem*.

LOL.

I think you’d agree that the “promise” of boundless opportunities (for example option 1) is something that they just say to keep you interested in a position. Rarely do the opportunities present itself when we expect them to.

This all depends on what your current and not so distant future priorities are. Is having a more stability more important that being able to “travel” or vice versa? I put travel in ” ” because work travel is different from holiday travel, i’m sure you’d agree, and holiday travels are few and far between….reality bites… :(

But having this many options available to you both is something exciting hor? Not everyone can choose. So choose wisely. Who knows, there may be a minimili or a shakin’bacon on the way. Muahahaha!! I think all your friends have more baby fever than you ever will.

SH: Yeah, you guys think im baby making machine..:(

In a way it is not the generic travelling like holiday; but when i realized that in the new company there would be NO OPPORTUNITY ever to leave the UK, I kinda had a panic attack.I just like having the choice ‘in the future’; it doesn’t even have to be now.

Just as an example, you know that (since you were mr hr!) if I really wanted me and bacon could move back tomorrow and have a job in KL nearly immediately; salary notwithstanding. Moving will mean an end to that comfort dropzone.

mavis: thats the problem. At the moment I think I are not thinking about ££ anymore, even though that would be more than welcomed. After my stints working in the world’s worst company,I now believe that it is better to be happy at work rather than unhappy but earning shitloads.

All this is like as if this is MY choice..bwahahaha!

i think working in a place that he is happy and comfortable is the best choice. You don’t want a hubby that is always showing sour face all the time from work stress, right?
Whatever choice, support him all the way. :)
Happy for you 2 since bacon’s career is on the go.. can plan more holidays now.. ehhe
