Hidden in the corner of the little village that I used to live in, is a lovely little mediterranean/italian restaurant. Some might say it’s a mish mash of everything from around the baelearic sea area, but for me, Kasa Rosa is the epitome of what top class food should be – unpretentious, pronouncable, succelent and absolutely gobsmackingly delicate.
It has been our little secret for so long, but I think it’s time to share it with the world, especially the few lucky readers to be living around hicksville.Yes, this little hole in the wall restaurant off the main drag of a sleepy village is enough to love hicksville. As it used to be walking distance from our old house, we used to go there quite frequently, sometimes for some tapas and sometimes for a lunchtime plate of amazingly fresh plate of pasta. We’ve not been there since last year, so we popped over last Friday to celebrate Good Friday by stuffing ourselves silly
Fresh mussles with herbs and tomatos – their version of Moules Mariniere was absolutely delicious. The way it should be. The fresh tomato sauce was chock-full of freshly chopped herbs with a sprinkling of paprika. The white wine is evident but not overpowering in the sauce, just the way it should be – sutbly leaving you yearning for more. We were offered extra home made bread to soak up the sauce, an offer we definitely could not resist. At £8.50, this was well worth it.

Main course was the daily special of chargrilled seafood platter. The only dissapointing part of the whole experience was when we asked the waitress what was actually in the seafood platter, she said she did not know, and waited expectantly for us to either say yes or no. After a short uncomfortable silence, I requested that she asks the chef what was actually on the seafood platter..which, to her credit, she trotted off with a smile and pad in hand.
So we ended up with a giant platter of a scallop, a grilled king prawn, two mussels, tuna, sea bream, salmon and sea bass. And it was the best fish I have ever had in my life. The white wine sauce with rosemary and lemon delicately coats the tounge in preparation for the bite into the freshest most tender fish this side of the world. Sinking my teeth into the succulent fish melts my heart as the texture of the fish attacks my tounge.I am still dreaming of it one week on….drools.Well worth the £16.90

However, it does not come with vegetables, therefore we had a side of deep fried enchengo cheese. Hahahahah:). No, we just fancied some deep fried cheese, and this cheese, cut into cubes like potatoes, went amazingly well when dipped into the tomato sauce of the mussels. At £3.50 per portion, it was delicious.

With what little room for dessert, we ordered the tiramisu. The last time I was there, I ordered a slice of choc fudge cake which looked like it came out from our local supermarket – completely out of line, it was disgusting. This time, tiramisu was written on the specials board with two exclamation mark – must be good.
And it was the best I had ever had in my life. You can taste the coffee liquor coating the sponge fingers, enveloped in fresh dairy cream topped with a sprinkling of cocoa.Yes, I am still dreaming of it as well…I can’t get over the bite at first love. I mean love at first bite.
Bear in mind that it all the above was ordered in individual portions – a starter,a main, a side & a dessert between both of us. Maybe we were not very hungry, but it was all enough to share between two persons. Well, except the dessert, I could have had another one,but I might burst and had to be admitted to the A&E section of the local hospital. Total bill came up to £32 for two persons, inclusive of a pint and an expresso.Well worth the damage….none of the name-brand restaurants in Leeds can compete with this unpretentious little joint who we hope will be around for a very very long time. If you are not very hungry, be sure to pop in for their delicious herby pastas – from £7 a portion, it’s the best pasta ever -better than dino’s & bibi’s.

In terms of local currency, ie. not converting, that is cheap! Especially the mussels! Here you’d pay at least A$16-18.
Comment by mooiness 04.12.07 @ 5:14 pmthats the problem, you need to convert. Because even though there is the conversion thing, in real money, salaries are the same in OZ or in UK, just that everyhing else, esp houses are waaaay more ex in UK.
With mroe things being more ex in UK, it is quite a good price for the meal – but need to remember that technically,we only had a meal for one..hahahaa:)
